Provision for Non-Catholics

The Chaplaincy organises inter-religious/ecumenical service in response to the needs of the school and of the country, and as a way of cementing the unity and acceptance our students, from differing social and faith backgrounds, share in the school.

Loyola Jesuit College is a Catholic school, but it is open to students of other faith traditions. No student, however, may leave the school compound for religious services or for other reasons, unless in an individual case (e.g., a family wedding or funeral) the Principal gives permission for such absence. Muslim students at Loyola Jesuit College are never asked to attend Catholic services and are encouraged to fulfill their own religious duties privately. During Ramadan, if they are fasting, they are provided with the pre-dawn breakfast (sahur). Muslim families are allowed to bring them home briefly for the celebrations of 'Id al-fitr' and 'Id al-adha' when they occur in school time.

More specifically, Muslim students should note the following:
  • Muslim students are enjoined to observe the five daily prayers, provided they do so at a time that is not in conflict with their school schedule.
  • There is no mosque building on the Loyola Jesuit College campus.
  • Muslim students are welcome to fast during the month of Ramadan. The college will ensure that meals are provided at the appropriate time to facilitate this.
  • Islamic Religious Studies is not part of Loyola Jesuit College curriculum.
  • Muslim students enjoy the Christmas and Easter holidays that we Christians observe.
