Loyola Jesuit College is recognised and approved by the Archbishop of the Catholic Archdiocese of Abuja, and the Federal Capital Territory Department of Education. The Archdiocese and the College endorse the five main objectives of the New National Policy on Education as the basis for Catholic education in the Archdiocese. The Board of Governors is chaired by the Provincial of the Society of Jesus in Nigeria and is responsible for formulating school policies according to the Jesuit vision and philosophy as enunciated in the Mission Statement. The everyday interpretation and administration of this is delegated to the Principal through the President of the College. The President is the Chief Executive Officer of College. He is responsible for ensuring that Loyola Jesuit College is run in accordance with the spirit and directives of the Board of Governors and the Society of Jesus. The Principal is the Chief Academic Officer of the school. He, assisted by the Vice Principal, is responsible for the day-to-day running of the school. The Principal works in close conjunction with the President, who, with the Board of Governors and the Society of Jesus, is ultimately responsible for school policy.

Student Prefects The Prefects are invested with the formal authority of the school to assist in the day to day running of the school from an administrative and disciplinary point of view. They are students whose leadership qualities and general contribution to the life of the school highlight them as role models and indicate that they have sufficient loyalty, discretion, initiative and flexibility to serve the school in this special capacity.
The primary role of the prefects is to lead by example, to experience (and therefore share) some of the responsibility for administering school life, and to participate in decision-making processes. They also are expected to represent the views of the students to the school authorities, in all situations where this is important. If an analogy is sought, it is the role of responsible elder brothers and sisters that is enjoined upon them. They are expected to guide, to encourage, to praise the others, and where necessary, to criticise and help to eradicate unacceptable conduct or inadequate personal presentation. While they have full authority in the school, they are expected to communicate with, and seek the advice of teachers and administrators from time to time.
