Broadly stated, our Information Technology curriculum seeks to encourage our students and faculty to:
-
foster an interest in, enjoyment of, and confidence in the use of computers,
-
develop the ability to apply knowledge and understanding of computing techniques in order to find solutions to practical problems,
-
develop an appreciation of the range and power of computer applications,
-
develop practical abilities in the use of computers and computer applications,
-
develop an awareness of the place of computing in society and its relevance in education.
Information Technology is an integral part of the college academic programme. This component provides a means of engaging our students in problem-solving activities in a variety of contexts and providing them with practical experience in areas where computers are used. The College implements the Microsoft® Official Curriculum (MOC) that is intended to capture and heighten interest, and offer a stimulating and systematic study of computers and their uses. The curriculum is designed also to provide a suitable basis for further study of computers and the opportunity to develop attitudes necessary for responding to the challenges of a technological environment.
All our students attend 80 minutes of practical computer lessons each week for four years. In these lessons, students are guided through series of self-paced exercises that have been specially designed to enable them learn to use common computer applications. These exercises are intuitive, graded and highly structured to cater for a wide range of knowledge and abilities. In addition to the formal lessons, students are also exposed to specially designed computer aided learning software in Science, Mathematics, English Language, French, Geography and History in order to enrich their knowledge in these subjects.
